Basic submission principles
English «
Contents

The following are a list of general principles regarding submissions on Sonemic. Please read over this list; if you don't agree with these principles, then you're welcome to discuss them on the forums and argue your case for changes, but don't submit data to the site until you agree with them.

Originality is King

When you source data to submit to Sonemic, we prefer sources that are original as possible. A scan/picture of the relevant info from a copy you have in your hands is the best source. Other music databases or encyclopedias are the worst sources. The worst sources can be used as a last resort, but if you find yourself sourcing most of your data from the "worst" sources or blindly copying data en-masse, then we would prefer that you not submit the data to Sonemic at all.

Regarding images, original scans submitted by users trump any image sourced from elsewhere, unless there is a problem with the scan that would prevent it from meeting basic image guidelines.

We prefer *no data* to bad data or guesses

It is a principle of Sonemic that it's better to have no data than to have data which is simply an educated guess or an approximation.

Example: If a release with catalog number DS003 was released in 1978 and DS005 was released in 1978, then do not enter 1978 as the release date for DS004 just based on the assumption that it is probably the release date. In many instances, these types of guesses are wrong.

When you submit data, it is your responsibility to revise the item as needed to ensure that it meets guidelines - and that sometimes means fixing mistakes of the person who edited it before you.

The process for submitting data on Sonemic is generally as follows:

1) User submits data to the site.
2) A site moderator will review the submission, and either accept it or ask the user to fix problems with it.
3) The user makes the requested corrections, and learns from the experience, incorporating the moderator's advice into future submissions.

Moderators will not fix your submissions for you, no matter how trivial the change. They have a vast amount of work to process in order to keep the queues empty; thus, they need to reserve their time for quickly assessing a large number of submissions in a short amount of time.

When you submit data to the site, you are "holding" the release, so to speak, and other users cannot edit it or submit data. Thus, in some cases, the moderator will ask you to edit the correction to fix mistakes that were not necessarily your fault. In these cases, you should make the requested changes; submitting to Sonemic requires a collaborative spirit and a small amount of work from you in these cases will go a long way.
