Doom 3 2004
Textbook definition of "It's fine." As a horror game, it's not that scary. As a shooter, it does the bare minimum with a god awful shotgun attached to it too.

SIGNALIS 2022
Currently my favorite survival horror game of all time. The only genuine flaw of this game I can think of is it's very derivative of stuff that inspired it, however so is some of the stuff that came before this game (Silent Hill 2 & Dead Space specifically).

This ones definitely overhated in my opinion. I love the atmosphere, I love the gameplay, and this game easily does the cheesy anime stuff better than the other post RE5 games in my opinion.

Persona 5 2016
This game has great music, style, and a lot of good content that's genuinely fun. I hate everything else about this game though. The annoying one dimensional characters, the story is so uninteresting to me, the mind numbingly easy difficulty, I hate Futaba, Morgana, and Kasumi, and the third semester antagonist might be the most overrated villain in any piece of media ever.

The gameplay is much better than Persona 3's, but Adachi hard carries this game so bad. This also probably has my favorite music of the Persona games as well.

Metro 2033 2010
Story feels kinda whatever, especially when you're going for the good ending, I haven't read the book so maybe it's better in that department. What makes me like this game though is it's survival mechanics and it's oppressive atmosphere. Especially on this games highest combat and survival difficulties, having to maintain your gas mask and it's filters all while trying to survive these combat encounters with no HUD is genuinely a lot of fun.

Overhated, but there's still so much objectively wrong with this game. The notoriously bad hitboxes, tedious combat encounters, extremely easy and boring bosses, and questionable level design. Not only that but the sheer amount of content in this game, even without the expansions, means that not everything in this game is going to be worth playing over again on repeat playthroughs. However this game still has some really fun builds, the best NG+ system in the franchise, and a lot of other great moments like some actually decent bosses and levels. If you can look past all the jank of this game, there's definitely still a lot here to appreciate.

Reused bosses with entire levels dedicated to them in an already pretty short story mode hold down a game that's pretty much amazing in every other aspect. The best gameplay in these games so far, and although there's only three good playable characters (I hate playing as V), this is still another high for the franchise.

The most content in any DMC game to date probably. You can play as Nero, Dante, Vergil, Trish, and Lady, all in the main story or the series signature Bloody Palace mode. The second half of the main story ends up holding this game down a lot as it ends up being pretty much the same exact game as the first half, except in reverse, which is actually a lot worse than it sounds.

Dark Souls 2011
Great for what it is and when it came out, and it still holds up today. However the bosses in this game have been outclassed as Fromsoft kept making souls games, and the last few hours of this game are still abhorrent due to time constraints during this game's development.

As far as the open world goes, the activities in this game are almost Ubisoft levels of boring, but the world building and extremely strong side quests help out a lot to break up that monotony. Not only that, but Phantom Liberty and the 2.0 update did wonders for this games gameplay and story.

Postal 1997
Passable twin stick shooting action that's honestly pretty fun in a really short campaign filled with extreme shock value. There's some great art in this game and the music and sound design can be pretty unnerving too. There's definitely some cool psychological horror elements buried beneath all the shock value stuff that make this game at least worth one play. However, the game is extremely short and the coolest elements of this game are very rarely present.

Really boring main story, really boring side stories, really boring expansions, really boring combat. The best part of this game though is just how big the world is and how many interesting locations there actually are, it's my favorite post-Fallout 3 Bethesda open world personally.

I hate having to switch between two characters so much and this game is episodic for literally zero reason. Not Resident Evil's lowest point but it's definitely not one of the best games in the franchise.

If you love uninspired enemies, some awful fixed camera angles, and backtracking, this game will be for you. The train segment of this game is really good, and I love Rebecca so much, but the rest of this game is just not fun and ends up feeling like a slog until the end of the game. Some pretty good bonus content in this one though.

A genuinely awful game. Easily the best Mercenaries/horde/bonus mode in the franchise, but that's the only good thing this game has going for it. The combat would be genuinely fun in the main story if it ever actually let you use it to it's full extent. Instead the game would rather have you spend your time in chase sequences, fetch quest garbage, and then when you do get to fight, you have to worry about the stingy ammo economy of this game and the equally as rough stamina system.

People have warmed up to this one over time, and for good reason, its a genuinely fun game. However this game would start the trend of Resident Evil games leaning more into the extreme over the top aspects of their story and would set a standard that I currently hate with the franchise. That being some extremely poorly written action movie garbage that is so laughably bad, but at least in this game it's actually genuinely entertaining, which wouldn't be the case for many games after it.

Capcom isn't really a company known for their amazing stories or anything, but this game's story stands out for actually being relatively strong. Takes everything good about the first game's gameplay and makes it even better. Introduced the style system, has some great boss fights, amazing style and atmosphere. Add on top of that a playable Vergil in the special edition, and this is one of Capcom's greatest games ever.

Good for not just it's extremely influential multiplayer, but also it's style, settings, level design, and more grounded story that would make this game's single player stand out amongst the derivative and overly bombastic first person shooters that would be influenced by it.

Fun gameplay akin to old school Zelda games with a bit of hack and slash and shooting thrown in. As far as indie games go the style isn't anything too insane or out of this world but it's still strong and has a good soundtrack to back it up. Throw in a vague but still decent and emotionally strong story and this is definitely one of my favorite indie games. Some might say that no dialogue and the already pretty vague story is a major flaw of this game, however I felt this game communicated it's themes, and ultimately reached what it was going for very well.

PC port is god awful and the gameplay is effectively just button mashing, also has a pretty mediocre open world when you're not in the actual assassination levels. This game's style and story though, alongside it's themes of escapism, desensitization, and other things you would expect from Suda51's "Kill the Past" games are all here. The boss fights are also genuinely really fun and probably the best part of this game from a gameplay perspective.

The first metroidvania I have played, but it's not hard to see why this game is so highly praised. Going through Dracula's castle in this game gives the same feeling as exploring a well curated vast open world in other games, except focused into one smaller area. The balance of this game is questionable and you'll never really feel like you're in danger in this game, but it's still a fun time.

The gameplay of this is great, the shooting and abilities are all amazing, and building your team to become a pack of unstoppable super soldiers is so much fun. As a conclusion to the Mass Effect trilogy though, this game's story really started to fall apart, and has one of the most notoriously mediocre endings to a series ever.

This game fixed up Mass Effect's main issue of it's jank combat really well, all while keeping the great characters and story of the original, although in my opinion losing a lot of the epic feeling the original had. This game's more quality over quantity approach to the galaxy exploration removed the entirety of the Mako planet exploration, which depending on what kind of person you are, can be a good or bad thing.
