Biography

Started as a joint project of Watanabe Productions (NabePro), Nippon Cultural Broadcasting (NCB) and others. As NabePro was financed by Warner-Pioneer Corporation at the time, Apollon served as cassette tape maker for Warner-licensed releases in mid 70's. In 1978, NabePro started Sounds Marketing System label for vinyl releases with support by Apollon's production department, but in 1981, Apollon started their own vinyl label Alty. After SMS ceased to exist in 1988, all NabePro's recording activities were moved under Apollon.

In 1987, Apollon started a partnership with toy maker Bandai who also bought all shares from NCB to become one of the label's key shareholders. Renamed to Bandai Music Entertainment in 1996, the label started to specialize in anime and game music releases (with sister Bandai Visual label for same-themed video releases). In 1999, BME's ex-employees started a label named Lantis who later got independent and gained all rights for BME's anime works after the original label ceased to exist in 2000.

The Apollon corporation also had a division called Apollon International specifically for foreign bands and artists released through Apollon.
