Started as a joint venture between the Warner Music Group, the Japanese audio maker Pioneer Electronic Corporation, and the Watanabe Production agency. Watanabe withdrew in 1978 after forming a partnership with Apollon Music Industries. Pioneer withdrew in 1989 to focus on its Pioneer LDC division, leaving Warner in complete control of Warner-Pioneer. The corporation was renamed Warner Music Japan in 1991.
