Localized names
English «
This feature is used for artists whose original name is written in a non-Latin alphabet. For these artists, the original non-Latin name should be entered into the "First Name" and/or "Last Name" original fields, while the English translation or transliteration should be added on the "First Name (Localized)" and/or "Last Name (Localized)".

Using the "Localized English" field

The Localized English field should be used when the artist's primary name is written in a non-Latin character set.

In general, an artist's primary name should be the name that they use most often in their career in the region in which they are most known (typically the artist's home country).

Exception: In the case of very popular artists (example: Jackie Chan) who have become popular worldwide and clearly wish to use the Latin spelling of their name, the Latin name should be used as the primary name (their native name should be placed in the AKA section). If there is an argument among members over whether an artist is well-known enough to have their name written in Latin and it cannot be resolved, then we should fallback to using the native name.

Using the Localized English field with Chinese, Cambodian, Korean, and Vietnamese names

When entering artists whose primary name is written in Chinese, Cambodian, Korean, and Vietnamese, the following standards should be applied.

First name: <left blank>
Last name: <enter the artist's full name, consisting of their last name followed by first name, with no spacing between the names>

First name (Localized): <left blank>
Last name (Localized): <enter the artist's full name, consisting of their family name followed by given name>

If there is a case (with clear evidence) that an artist uses a Latin version of their name that is something other than that is "<first name> <last name>," then that name should be used (and entered in the first/lastname fields according to the normal standards for entering artists).
