I'm one of those people who literally will listen to almost anything, but in general I tend to gravitate towards the upbeat and energetic and the atmospheric and thoughtful. Naturally this ends up meaning my favourite genres are probably power metal and progressive rock, but as you can see, I probably have a wider range of music that I enjoy than anyone you'd meet in real life. Still not up to RateYourMusic standards in that category, of course.

RATING SYSTEM
=====================
5 stars means something that personally affects me, that I can comfortably say is a defining albums of sorts. Some 4.5 stars may be 5 stars, but they don't personally affect me or have some flaws.

0.5 stars means something that I utterly hate as a person and view either no redeeming value in the sound or the only redeeming value in the music is mockery. Anything in between that is varying levels of bad to great. 2.5 stars means something I don't quite get (sometimes) or it means something that's just kind of there.

Music is to be enjoyed and provoke some sort of response out of the person, never to be coldly analysed by pretentious intellectuals. Though pretentious intellectuals have been known to make good music at times.

ON REVIEWS
=====================
A lot of my reviews are terrible, especially my older ones. I tend to ramble on about whatever and use it as my personal blog. Many of my older reviews are in desperate need of revision of opinion on the music considering I wrote them years ago.

    We might disagree on the Avantasia/Dream Theater bit, but I cannot really contest you know a bit of what you're going on about. Wish I could hear what you hear in The Astonishing, really, because it sucks hating a DT album this strongly.

    hey so the reason ive been hesitant about posting on your page and lists is because i know some people on rym don't use the site as a social network (your friends list is a hint - why again dont you have anyone added? i forgot), and if i'm being too outgoing you might perceive it as me being ingratiating or bothersome. i'd like to stay in contact since our tastes have a lot of overlap and you find cool stuff, just want to make sure i'm not overstepping my bounds

    It is! I know you were rather disappointed by Music Battler (which I now consider to be their best overall, probably even including Dolls Apartment) so it's hard to tell how you'll enjoy the new one, but to me it's another absolute success, especially on the production and melodic fronts. I'd say it's slightly less metal than the preivous one, but still amazingly energetic. I can send you a link if you wish.

    I can see what you mean. They've toned down the energy level just slightly, but their songwriting is now on another level for me. Still five bangers in less than 4 years (counting Dolls Apartment) is an amazing feat.

    Yo, sorry to randomly come in and such and this may sound stupid but...do you by any chance still have Upon the Crimson Rivers by Apocalypse? I'm curious to see HOW BAD that thing is after seeing reviews (yours included) about it.

    Hey are you on soulseek under the same name? I was working on a new box set for Japanese Trance Metal and I'm pretty share I downloaded a few albums from you. Just curious if that's the case. If you're interested in looking at the list I'm working on and seeing if it's accurate it would be helpful!
