Read your review for HTTYD2. I think you misinterpreted the moral from the story. You say it's about how bad people can influence good ones to be bad. However, the film is really about making your own decision. This is explained clearly when Toothless breaks from the herd, as you say, which the other dragons slowly follow to stand up against the bad dragon. Also, the "musical number," if you can even call it that, was fantastic. It showed the estrangement of two people coming together in an incredibly heartfelt way. But that's just me.

I appreciate the comments. My opinion of the movie was sinking since I saw it yesterday, but your comments have stabilized that - maybe even reversed it some.
As for the musical scene, the reason that falls flat for me was that the family reunion aspect of the story feels rushed. The mother character is intriguing, but how Stoick and Hiccup accept her with minimal uncertainty and anger after a decade or two of absence was odd.
