Amazing movie, though. It's amazing how it feels like such a structuralist conceit: That it takes so many attributes of DIY culture people of me are attracted to (in a completely healthy context, mind you) and puts them together towards the most unbelievable atrocity. It seems to be just as much about that as it is about evil.

Yeah, though the more I think about it, the more I feel like it has as much in common with Persona and Mulholland Drive as it does with Audition and Unfriended. Not just in terms of the "meta-ness" (though it obviously has the shooting crew on set from Persona, and the "you think you're safe because you're at home" bit describes the home viewing just as much as it does the internet), but with the female identity switching themes. Like, when Megan was first going through the story of her losing her virginity, I genuinely wondered in the back of my mind, "Dang, was I a virign for not losing my virginity that early?", because the movie seemed to genuinely treat her as a god-like figure in the high school system. And then when Josh starts threatening the other girl, I assumed that the ending would be a fictionalized escape where they both were in danger. But it ended up just having her fate be left to our imagination.

Yeah, I know it sounds pretentious as heck coming from the Paul Blart Mall Cop guy, but this really feels like a capital-A Art Film to me.

Hey CJ, do you know anything about the new Anthony Weiner documentary? I personally found it more than a little thematically muddled, but I think you'd enjoy writing about whatever it has to say on sex addiction and the nature of mass media.

(Since those seem to be two pet topics you love to see commented on in movies)

i expected it sooner rather than later actually, knowing i had a few of these "anti-💀" people as my friends. im sure itll continue to happen but ah well, im glad people are enjoying the list!
