Yeah this is on PC now and the port is pretty solid. It's a GameCube game, your laptop can run it, you don't need a gaming PC. I'm assuming people just want it ported to switch or something though because, that's how a lot of people who own a switch are lol.

Yeah, games like this make me kind of weary of the New Discourse surrounding the quality of specific cult games as a whole, .

the gameplay is not only boringly easy and simple, it’s handholding and repetitive to a fault; pretty sure i could define about five or six layers of developers making the game idiot-proof, which may very well be a post-modern commentary of the nature of gaming, but somehow leaves the game between being transgressive but not experimental enough —
it’s just a half-hearted design that plays without flow or consequence.

also, steve blum voices his same act for like four characters in this??

that being said, the aesthetic + most plot moments are impeccable.
kinda loses me near the end though by being a little too nebulous.

what does "the New Discourse" refer to?

I disagree with every take btw. even without the postmodern elements I find the core mechanic original and fun + the new Smiles every level add legit variety. the character dynamics are distinctive enough to keep it fresh (after multiple playthroughs it holds up). killer8 is objectively difficult as fuck, and it also owns to just go full run and gun with the new character

also the ending section was one of the of those true "holy shit" things for me, never have I wanted to play something again so fast in order to recontextualize the dialogue and cutscenes with it. its kinda like what I had with Mulholland Dr (although this is more Inland Empire in terms of plot coherence, in that its more about its themes (the geopolitical ones in this case which feel incredibly relevant still))

The Silver Case series killed this game for me. On a replay it felt tiresome and needlessly obtuse (25th Ward being super obtuse while still having a much better overall point and direction), if it weren't for the Travis infodumps this game would be 90% based in spirit but ultimately boring gameplay, 8% awesome cutscenes and 2% proper storytelling

You could argue that the story being so hard to follow it required a companion book to fill in gaps is bad writing.

do you know anything about the companion book at all lol, trust me it creates more questions than answers

regardless if it did or not, which it definitely doesn't, the game has a lot of cut content so I'd argue that critiquing it on those "gaps" isn't entirely fair

I do know about the companion book, I fucking read it. It absolutely fills in gaps that the game completely left out. What questions does it create? You seemed to have left those out.

Lil bros source is literally "Trust me bro" lmao.

Oh and as for gaps it fills. It talks about who sits beside harman in the hotel (which the game completely leaves out). It fills in the background of Toru Fukushima and why your even killing him in the first place (which the game very lightly touches on), it explains the different versions of harman (which the game doesn't touch on at all), it goes over the backstory of harman and the smith syndicate (which the game barely touches on, only covering the hotel). I could really go on and on but I think I've covered the major stuff. The other gaps in writing are pretty minor and aren't that hard to piece together.

The story in this game is great and, at the same time, it's the least important thing about it. I'd say it's almost an exclusively visual and thematic experience accompanied by very fun gameplay.
