Dystopian
Genre
A dystopia is a world or society that has one or several fundamental flaws that render it scary, oppressive, or otherwise fundamentally repulsive to general societal and moral standards. These flaws can include extreme disparity of wealth, overbearing governmental control, environmental collapse, dehumanization, global pandemics, and/or scientific and technological advancement that has spiraled out of control and become too powerful. It is often defined as the opposite of a utopia - a world with a perfect or near-perfect society.
Games tagged as dystopian can include both games that are explicitly set in a dystopian world, such as Deus Ex and Bioshock, and games with themes commonly found in dystopian literature, such as Papers, Please.
