Black comedy

Genre
Black comedy is comedy that derives its humour from subject matter that is typically seen as grave and upsetting and normally considered 'off-limits' for other forms of comedy. Examples of this subject matter can include death, sexual assault, disability, disease, bullying, prejudice, and apocalyptic events. It is distinct from adult humour, which uses themes that are taboo but not as dark (such as sex and bodily functions), and from satire, which sometimes utilizes the same themes but does so to attack an individual or institution. This type of comedy often lends itself to cynical, pessimistic, and sarcastic worldviews, but does not need to be delivered in this tone to be considered as black humour.
