I started buying and listening to music in 2005. I work a dead end job and cannot really afford to beef up my collection on a regular basis, but I do carefully examine music before I buy it to make sure I am purchasing something that will interest me. My collection is now about to exceed 150 CDs, as well as some digital purchases.
I listen to everything from folk, rock, electronica, experimental, indie, and more. I think I have a way of telling if rather or not I will like a song. Of course, this is all subjective, but if I could take apart a song and listen to each of its individual components (bass, guitar, rhythm, vocals, lyrics, etc) and enjoy each one on its own, then I have myself a good song. A great album's majority of songs will usually meet this criteria.
I don't have the money or time of day to buy and listen to music that I dislike. Yes, the unbalanced ratings on my profile with so many five star and four and a half star albums compared to the few three star and lower rated albums makes me feel a little uneasy. But that should not cause my opinion on a superb album to dip.
I like rateyourmusic's rating scale, but I also integrated my own rating scale along with it: rating from 0.0 to 10.

I am currently attending college at York Tech in Rock Hill, SC and will transfer to Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC. I am an English major who would like to teach High School. I am a Christian who believes in the life, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. You may find it odd that hardly none of the music I listen to is Christian. Well, if Christian artists were to push some boundaries and experiment with different sounds, my ears may be more inclined to do so. I do avoid songs that are blasphemous to the Lord and contain excessive amounts of lyrics that glorify sin.
