Album Ratings:
5 = 10 - 9.3 Fantastic. Every single track is great, about as close to flawless as an album can get. An absolutely timeless album.
4.5 = 9.2 - 8.6 Excellent. Nearly every track is great. A staple of it's respective genre.
4 = 8.5 - 7.8 Great. Might have a couple of less than stellar tracks, but overall is completely worth your time.
3.5 = 7.7 - 7.1 Good. Doesn't reinvent the wheel or anything, but is still a solid release.
3 = 7 - 6.3 Decent. Doesn't do anything wrong, but isn't interesting enough to warrant a higher score.
2.5 = 6.2 - 5.6 Average. Might be a song or two worth listening to, but otherwise is completely disposable.
2 = 5.5 - 4.0 Poor. Not terrible or anything, but it's just not for me.
1.5 = 3.9 - 3.0 Bad. For fans of the particular artist and/or genre only.
1 = 2.9 - 2.0 Very bad. Can't think of a single thing redeeming about this.
0.5 = 1.9 - 0.0 An abomination set to music. Stay away at all costs
For the record, I rarely rate anything lower than a 2. It has to be really damn musically offensive for me to rate something that low, as I consider 2.5 to be my default 'mediocre score'. As long as an album has at least one or two good songs that I come back to often, I'll usually give it at least a 3 even if the rest of it is disposable.

If you have a chance, check out Glim Spanky sometime. I got into their stuff years ago and got to know them a little, and now they're getting pretty popular in Japan. Their latest music is somewhere between pop rock and hard rock, but they started out more bluesy.
