speaking of guys from 60s bands, did you check out Denny Doherty before? His first album Watcha Gonna Do is one of my recent favorite discoveries, he's from the Mamas & Papas but the stuff is also very country at times and I think especially as a Beatles fan you might like it too, check out the title track! I'm suprised how much I like it. The follow up album is very solid too! good mix of own snogs and covers..

haha wow that's weird/funny. Also discovered him through recordings by others like "Brand New Tennessee Waltz" or "Biloxi" which I though Buffett wrote for a while. interesting story too with growing up in Memphis but fleeing to Canada.. really enjoy the shorter acoustic songs on the second album but of course the debut has some classics too - yes, good stuff!

no didn't get that reference first, thought it was about some streetnames or something if that makes any sense.. after hearing the albums again, it also seems his voice has grown much stronger and comfortable on the second album which sure adds to the general 'warmer' feeling..

Hey! Just been looking at your '70s singer/songwriter threads, and they introduced me to some great music. I know it's been a lot of time since the last thread, but I just wanted to know, would you consider doing some new threads for some other singer-songwriters (I know a lot by name, but am mostly unfamiliar with their music).

Well, there's always Dylan and Young, but I guess they already have enough of their own threads. Then there's also Nick Drake, Tim Buckley, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, John Martyn, Dan Fogelberg, as well as the solo stuff from the CSN and Beatles members (minus Ringo).
Know them mostly only by name, though.

Ah, good lad. :) But, if you're a Beach Boys fan, I highly recommend the album, really nice, short, low key little recording, very pretty.
