My Ratings now include shorter comments but the following still applies:
5.0 Supreme Desert Island Stuff; 4.5 Almost Perfect;
4.0 Excellent; 3.5 Really Good; 3.0 Above Average

2.5 I Might Listen To This Again; 2.0 Few Redeeming Qualities; 1.5 Below Average; 1.0 Not the Very Worst, but Getting that Way; 0.5 The Very Worst. Earplugs Might Help.
(2.5 & above is agreeable; 2.0 & below is disagreeable.)

Music plays an important part in all our lives. Ratings are subjective. Not only do they reflect appreciation of music as art, but also the connection it makes with our lives. Some records remain as agreeable to our ears as they did the very first time we hear them. Others do not. Records that have not greatly impressed me on a first listen, often improve with each listen. It is, of course, absurd to compare your daughter's first painting with a Rembrandt masterpiece. To give a 5,0 rating to Beethoven's 9th and to a smoochy disco number from the 1980s is equally subjective.

My musical taste is eclectic but limited to the music I have heard.
Good music, like good wine, improves with age. Music is, in the end, all a question of taste. I am, however, always interested in hearing new artists and bands, and welcome suggestions. If I have time, I will listen.

Classical Music: For now, I use the same ratings system
for any "Classical" Music I review or rate, but I consider my ratings notes to ill-describe this genre or genres.

Like colours, or sports teams, however well conceived or performed, music is a question of personal taste & variety is the spice of life.

All music is folk music. I ain't never heard a horse sing a song. (Louis Armstrong)

'I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down'. (Bob Newhart (Sep 5, 1929-):

I am not keen on Country or Hard Core, to name just two genres, where anything I rate over 1,5 is pretty good, by my reckoning.

Thanks to all friends, and others, who have notified me of any errors in my reviews or ratings. Where appropriate, I have made the corrections. It is unusual, but not impossible that I will rate a track 0.5 on an album to which I have given a high overall rating.

This is my taste in music, no one else's. I get on well with people whose tastes are completely different & vice versa.

    dr john's gris gris is far from blues/rock/psychedelia stereotypes; it's one of these rare albums that create their own unique atmosphere breaking genre's borders in a subtle and natural way; it's not only the ultimate moment of dr john's discography but really a one of a kind listening experience

    Hey Iain, thanks for the very interesting track which is a new genre for me, downtempo or chillout. What a beautiful positive message, that track could really bless me if I play it over and over! Thanks. That song I posted you was a single I collected in 1984 by West Australian band The Dugites, I was just listening again and thought it would be up your alley. I love that song. Thought I'd be slightly mysterious and simply post the link, as the music speaks for itself anyway. Happy ryming!
