but the gameplay is what really kills it for me. actually playing through a genocide run isn't fun or challenging, and the game is picky to the max.
i can agree that there is a fun superficial element to the gameplay, the battle system is constantly toyed with as you progress through the game, gimmicks that can hold your attention the first time you play precisely because they're gimmicks.
i think other games should take cues from Undertale's gameplay because there's some real potential there.
as much as i cant get past the things i've mention, the game is a major success in many separate regards. the sense of humour, playfulness and structure of the game, in addition to the obvious awesome boss themes and neat mechanics, is undeniable. i'm strarting to think i like the game after all.
...actually tbh custom maps for old shooters (and Thief Gold/Thief II) are ~90% of what I play these days, it's got to the point where I've picked up mapping myself (for Quake 1).
