my semester for school recently ended, along with my job working at the campus library, but im couch surfing in oakland / berkeley for a couple weeks - should be back mid-june or earlier tho. then im going to europe (only london and berlin are in stone, may go to paris or somewhere else if i have the time) july 16 - aug 4 to check out schools with a library / information science masters program. thats basically my life for a couple months. also anime expo july 1 - 4 aw ye

well i have a concept, a really abstract and vague aesthetic/genre in my mind. it's been a style that's attracted me since my youth.

think of a small municipal's recreation center. there is a rink that splits time being a roller rink during the spring and summer, and an ice rink during the autumn and summer. there is a concession stand that sells slushees in solo jazz cups. I like to imagine what would play in the arena for an ethereal roller night. in the scene I also imagine it to be a meeting spot for the occult, spirits, and children alike.

it's stupid and hard to describe, but think of like, MBV - Soon, Bowery Electric - Beat, DJ Shadow - Changeling, Swans - Volcano. I feel like those would play throughout the night.

It's a convoluted concept, but every time I hear something that remotely reminds me of it, it just captures me. I wonder if I can get across what this means properly. Like this whole idea has stuck with me since I was a child, lmao. It's nostalgic now, yet it's always felt nostalgic, even when I was a toddler in the late 90's learning to skate.

P much live in downtown La Mesa, I like it enough. I like it follows a lot, but love the soundtrack. It's definitely worth checking out, one of the best horror movies of the last 5 years imo.

Yes, it was in the basement of a tiny record shop in Paris that was specialized in industrial and underground stuff. The shop was called Les Etablissements Phonographiques de L'Est (what a name.. sounds like a gulag, or something). I even bought some Illusion of Safety cassette tapes from the shop. And I got to talk with Jim O'Rourke after the gig ! He was a really nice guy, if a bit shy - not at all the charismatic guy he has grown to become, lol.
