yeah i was very confused most of the time and didn't mind until shit got real and violence broke out and stuff because it was so kafka-y/beckett-y, but then i was like 'oh man i wish i had been paying more attention!' def noir

i did the same thing- and then my disdain for twists etc coincided with my sudden appreciation of 'writing' and 'acting'. now that i am old the last thing i want is writing and acting which draw attention to themselves, and shyamalan always goes deadpan with both so that things can be communicated visually instead. you should go back through them! i love what he does with silence and filmic space- i can see why weerasethakul likes his stuff so much! the village is my least fav 'cause it's the one where the twist well and truly alters the filmworld- but it also has some of his best treatment of space- and ppl who do like what the twist does find that it elevates the thing to the realm of like quiet tragedy. the lady in the water and unbreakable are the two that i have not seen! following ur rec i will get onto it soon

yusss i am even more motivated now on account of pools!!!!! i must do soon cos i know what you mean- i have lists within lists which i then get rid of to start from scratch but then there is that paralysis of too many options. i found that netflix is an excellent enforced parameter for movie watching, and often what you must settle for is super average if not outright bad, so there are no stakes. starting something you want to like is a horrid feeling and not at all good for ever enjoying anything!

kierkegaard's 'leap of faith' when he listens to that person at work and puts on an episode of house of cards and spends the whole ep thinking what he will tell them tomorrow morning. 'i thought it was interesting how-' 'big names attached' 'i think u can tell we are in tv's golden age'

i want to do this as well! i was raised 'the book is always better' which is like saying the painting is always better than the sculpture- it makes no sense. u are right- comparing should be fun to see what different mediums can do
