Turn-based tactics

Turn-based tactics games focus on events on a smaller scale than a typical turn-based strategy. These are often constricted to combat, but the games can also feature limited recruitment and construction. The combat is generally realized using individual units that the player can tactically position within the environment, e.g., cover and elevation. The units are typically retained between battles with the ability to upgrade them and change their loadout.
