Probably the worst frame rate I have ever seen in an open world game, however I think it'll be patchable. The game runs really well inside most of the buildings. Outside of technical things, the writing is really top notch so far. The cast of characters are so quirky and fascinating. I'm stoked to finish this one and see where it goes.
I'm only past the freezer section and about to put the crocodile on Mrs. Carpenters lawn, but my expectations are succeeded. Why do fans dislike this again? I hear them say the characters are significantly worse, and sure, nothing can compare to the original games cast, but I love everything I'm seeing here from the QOL fixes, writing, humour, character dynamics, past/present storytelling, emphasis on being a detective, and so on. Does the game take a serious nosedive or something?

People didn't dislike it. Most reviews from fans of the original were positive.
Just that no one played it because it was bizarrely made a Switch exclusive, when Deadly Premonition always had a kind of Eurojank vibe (even though it's obviously Japanese) that is way more associated with PC and Playstation games.
If/when it is ever released on a sensible platform for its audience, it will probably actually be discovered again.
I guess I just said that because from my perspective at the time all the discourse I saw surrounding this game from fans had been somewhat negative, especially when comparing to the first, but I'm sure there are plenty that love it like me.
So is this actually worth playing? I adored the first game but ended up skipping out on this because it seemed like reactions were really mixed and I didn't want to shell out $50 for it if it was bad
I really wanted to like this game, but I tried playing it twice and just found the way it plays pathetically bad compared to the original. What were they thinking?

I think it’s decent enough and 2.27 seems a little harsh average rating. Biggest problem is so much of the fun in the original was in the side quests which helped build character stories and get upgrades. But here the side quests are all pointless and add no character development and pointless upgrades as the game is already easy enough with the base weapon
