Thank you for your comment, unfortunately I don't subscribe to Netflix so I'm currently waiting on the Second Run DVD or an online copy.

Good on you for listening to Rock Bottom, it really is a grand prog melodrama of an album. I'm always curious to hear people's thoughts on that album. I only recently decided Soft Machine- Third is the best Wyatt related album, but he's written so many masterpieces it's hard to keep track.

Cool! I, as you can probably guess, loved it. I thought it was a really bold take on "celebrity" and how we voyeuristically examine the lives of famous people. And then it gains layers with having Kanye in bed with all the famous people he's tangentially tied to. So in addition to being commentary about our obsession with celebrity, I think it says a lot with how obsessed we are with Kanye's strenuous relationships.

I also love how the song, which is boisterous and lively, offsets the quietness of sleeping in a bed. So when the music finally does kick off, that uncomfortability of watching people sleep really kicks in. I thought it was masterfully done.

How about you? Are you a fan?

man andy daly goes hard on review. thx for suggesting that a while back. such a ridiculous show, pitch black comedy. my favorite moment had to be when he was so committed to his living-like-a-"little person" gimmick that he got his dad's house burned down. it's surreal and dark, almost like something like freddy got fingered in some ways. wasn't expecting it to be so intense haha but i enjoyed it.

    Haha, oh boy. Well.

I think directorial perspective is a hugely important piece of filmmaking. Really, the most important. And I found Lonergan's perspective to be absolutely insufferable. I never felt like I was truly observing the characters, understanding them, feeling their emotions, getting inside their heads. I felt like I was watching people from a distance, and through the lens of a dorky, self-righteous teenager. It was like Lonergan was a juvenile fly on the wall, making smug, reductionist judgments about these without ever truly empathizing with them. I found no genuine emotion whatsoever in the whole movie. Not to mention how overlong and repetitive it was. What a mess.
