Did you know that Riverside put out a 45 for "What Is This Thing Called Love?" b/w "Peri's Scope"? I didn't believe it until my boss at the record store showed me a copy. I thought the only Bill Evans single was "The VIP's Theme."
hey zed i see you have wishliste sdome jamaicna recoridngs/kingston sounds releases.dobn't bother with them.they are rip off fake releases:
"My opinion???? ABSOLUTE GARBAGE LABLE everything on this label = fake remixed garbage, better yet taking originals, changing up the name and remixing it to atrocity. Check out king tubby roots of dub or dub from roots reissue by them...wait till u hear what they did to it. PURE TRASH AVOID AT ALL COSTS"
"kingston sounds seems to have a bit more integrity though the connection with jamaican recordings is clear."
"right from the beginning Jamaican Recordings have been issuing these dodgy albums. The first one was called "King Tubb's Lost Treasures", and that was over 10 years ago in 2001. I mean, how has this label been around all these years?"
"Most of the Jamaican Recordings releases consist of modern dub mixes (presumably done at Bunny Lee studio) to old master tapes presented as 'lost mixes from the vaults' etc. With this 'Augustus Pablo' release it's very obvious that it's not him playing the melodica but someone else, probably recorded very recently over old Treasure Isle instrumental tracks.
The other Ja Rec label called 'Kingston Sounds' deal mostly with vocal releases & usually issue unreleased vocal cuts from multi track tapes (licensed from Bunny Lee, Tappa Zukie, Observer etc.) which are getting a modern remix. You can catch some interesting material on this label but most of the times the mixes are not vintage 70s."
Well...they're not so rare, so i guess you can have them too if you give it a try ! If you like garage rock/garage punk imo they're the first ones to grab !Great tracks that you won't find easily at another comp-series.
Gotta get some "born bad" ! I don't have any of these/Haven't seen any of those at our local record stores The only problem with all these comps is that sooner or later you 'll find out that you have one track at 4 of them, another track at 5 of them of your collection ...and it becomes a little bit tiring !!!!
