The Face of Another [他人の顔] is probably the easiest to recommend in terms of pure narrative content etc. But it's hard to think of something exactly close.

For similar psychology I'd go for The Spider [Паук] or Blind Beast [盲獣]. For Gothic atmosphere I'd say Nosferatu the Vampyre [Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht], White Zombie, or Black Sunday [La maschera del demonio].

Not sure if any of those are quite what you're looking for, but maybe you'll find something there?

it's a massive task for all of us and it's very frustrating for us Germans that other European contries cannot help the refugees (for various reason) as we do. Well, Germany needs people who can work for very practical reasons. But mistakes have been made because it was a previously unknown task. The strong right wing however disgusts me and it's part of the problem and not part of the solution.
