Claire Redfield stumbles upon a zombie outbreak in Raccoon City and must cooperate with Leon S. Kennedy, a police officer on his way to his first day of duty. However, their attempts at survival takes a dramatic turn when they uncover a nefarious plot by local pharmaceutical company Umbrella Corporation, resulting them in being stalked by Umbrella's mysterious coated enforcer Mr. X.
I can't say I'm a fan of Remake 2, and the "thumbs up" rating here has more to do with its importance to the series and the overall production quality. It's not a bad game at all, and my first playthrough was quite enjoyable. However, I personally believe that Remake 3 did a much better job a year later than Remake 2 in many ways. Nemesis from Remake 3 as an "immortal enemy type" is far superior to Mr. X, who is very annoying and too mechanical here. The variety of locations in Remake 2 pales in comparison to the levels in Remake 3 too. And I'm definitely not a fan of the way Remake 2 handled two campaigns from the original, leaving them both too similar and contradictory to each other. What was acceptable in 1998 doesn't look so good in 2019. So, once again, while I can't argue with the overall quality of Remake 2, I unfortunately can't praise the game either. And I'm a little sad about the criticism that Remake 3 received because I really think it's a much better game than Remake 2.

While I do enjoy the original re 2, I will say that its rough around the edges even for its time, which makes this the definitive version to play as it fixes just about all of the issues that game has.
You can read what I have to say about Resident Evil 2 here, but to summarise, the tank controls are clunky, Ada and Sherry's segments don't add much and its inconvenient that the campaign is separated on two discs (even if it was necessary for the time.) This game fixes all of those problems as it retains the scares of the original while translating its gameplay to resemble re4, gives unique tasks to Ada and Sherry's and obviously doesn't need to be separated onto separate storage files in order to get the full experience. Something else this improves on is how much more likeable each of our four heroes are, particularly Ada as not only does she have a better cover story for why she's in raccoon city, but also shows genuine feelings towards Leon as opposed to the original where her feelings towards him feel out of left field. The change in control scheme and arguably genre means that we have different puzzles this time around, although they're fairly faithful to the ones found in the original, so they're not too alienating here. Another improvement is how Birkin chases you from your first playthrough rather than just the second one in the original, adding much needed tension to those who aren't interested in a second playthrough of the campaign.
The original is a classic, however I can see how modern audiences won't gravitate towards it. That's where this game comes in as it irons out all of the kinks of the original for the definitive experience.

Strangest thing for me is the lack of spiders and Poison Ivies, so Blue Herbs don't work for their purpose in the original game. This means Capcom expands the G-Adult into having several crawl in a room in the sewers, giving them poison, despite G himself never showing toxic powers. But Capcom also give us a R+B Herb Mix, which increases your character's defense for a little while, which is immensely useful, and gives both Herbs a little more use overall.

A textbook example of what good survival horror looks like. Balancing psychological tension with heart-pounding action is difficult, but Resident Evil 2 pulls it off almost flawlessly. Unfortunately the second half of the game(s) never reaches the height of the police station (I'll just say it: sewer sections are never fun to play), but this should not be a deterrent for any gamer. Absolute must-buy.

I'll keep it short cause the game is great and geek on the whole series (the movies are awful). Anyway you get re4 controls with the fantastic engine they started using on re7, pretty much the game plays smooth there isnt the janky cameras like 4 and 6. The game plays up the jump scares, it's a fucking ride man and the story gets fleshed out with vastly improved cut scenes (you can yt if you're bad at the game its ok). It does lack in post game material I dont know why they didn't do a mercenary mode but re8 brought it back so no need to bitch. Worth the purchase.

a 4/5 might be a bit high but everything before Mr.X stops chasing you through the police station is some of the scariest stuff ive experienced in a while, especially when Mr.X does chase you through the police station. you never know whats around the corner, and when you see Mr.X walking towards you at a steady pace, with no way to permanently stop him, you cant help but pause the game every couple minutes to calm yourself down. everything after that part though where you stop Mr.X for a bit is just not as good as what was before that moment. It's still a fun and horrifying experience with an interesting plot and narrative, and Leon is hot asf so whats not to love?

The fixed camera mod is pretty cool, but the controls/combat were not designed for this adaptation at all lol. Took a while to feel quasi comfortable with it.
The best iteration of zombies in games, love them as enemies and how they look and sound. The sewers and lab are inferior to how exceptional the RPD is, but they still are very good areas. Just roaming around the areas feel good by itself, perfect ambience. Great game.
