About myself:
Inveterate music listener and collector. Always searching for the perfect beat. Favorite type of music: anything that doesn't suck.

You may ask yourself "what is that beautiful house?"
You may ask yourself "where does that highway go to?"
And you may ask yourself "am I right, am I wrong?"
And you may say to yourself "my God, what have I done?"

Music begins where words leave off.

My ratings guide:
5.0 stars -> Essential listening for any music fan.
4.5 stars -> High quality work, just short of perfection.
4.0 stars -> Strong addition to an artist's discography.
3.5 stars -> Above average but just misses the mark.
3.0 stars -> Solid music yet nothing outstanding.
2.5 stars -> Below average but not totally without merit.
2.0 stars -> A few good moments amidst mediocre work.
1.5 stars -> Hardly anything to recommend at all.
1.0 stars -> Listening to nothing would be an improvement.
0.5 stars -> Completely terrible and potentially harmful.

John Peel, R.I.P.:
"Well, that was the best song I've heard since...well, tea time. Mind you, I had a late tea."

"You know, if I made a record as good as that, I'd just sit at home all day hugging myself."

"One night I should do a show where every record ends with the sound of an explosion."

"This is a record by Ledernacken, which can't surely mean what I think it means."

"People ask me, 'what was the best year for the music?' I always say, 'this year is the best year for music. Prior to that it was the previous year.'"

"I hope all you degenerate young hooligans have a bracing Christmas and that in the new year we can devise some method of helping keep you off the streets."

"I don't like encores. It's like, if you see a great painting, you don't want an extra bit painted on the side."

"Well, if you didn't like that I think the chances must be pretty high that you are dead."

"In case you're wondering who this funny old bloke is, I'm the one who comes on Radio 1 late at night and plays records made by sulky Belgian art students in basements dying of TB."

"Somebody was trying to tell me that CDs are better than vinyl because they don't have any surface noise. I said, 'Listen, mate, life has surface noise.'"

"If Elvis were alive today, I think he'd really understand happy hardcore."

"I don't think I shall be inviting them to my birthday party. They are the kind of people who park their vans so that nobody else could get in or out."

"I can't believe we've been on air for 12 minutes and I've not yet played anything by the White Stripes."

"Thank you for that, Peter, though something in your manner suggests to me that your opinions are best viewed through the sights of a police marksman's rifle."

"I don't want to spoil his chances at the station or anything but I got talking to him the other night at a party and he actually has an interest in music."

"I'm beginning to suspect their spirit of adventure has driven them to experiment with states of mind well beyond those traditionally associated with the consumption of three pints of Old Peculiar."

"That was the second track of our Neubauten session. I only wish they'd recorded a few more for us, although I imagine they spent a great deal of their time in our studio brooding."

"Here's an oldie which I always enjoy. You probably loathe it. I don't know, don't really care. It's my program, not yours."

"I don't read the same books I did when I was 20. I don't watch the same films I did when I was 20. Why would I listen to the same music?"

"Of course if I keep getting this worked up about it I'm going to give myself a heart attack. And then people are going to say 'well he would have wanted to go that way.' Let me assure you that I wouldn't."

"People sometimes ask me what I do this show for. I don't do it for the credibility or the cool. I don't do it for the major record labels. I don't do it for the music industry. I do it for people like...the Undertones."
