Narrative adventure
Genre
Narrative adventure games focus on the narrative and offering choices to the player to alter its events, with puzzle-solving often taking a back seat. The games typically lean on exploration and dialogues in order to advance the story, and may employ quick time events in situations like action sequences. The decisions made by the player have varying consequences, ranging from changing attitude of a NPC towards the player, to character deaths and different endings. The genre shares its decision-driven nature with choose your own adventure games, although the two differ mechanically.
Telltale's The Walking Dead is considered to have popularised the genre, though earlier games like Quantic Dream’s Heavy Rain [HEAVY RAIN 心の軋むとき] relied on many of the same mechanics. Other notable examples include Life Is Strange and Until Dawn.
