Minesweeper
Genre
Minesweeper is an archetype of grid puzzle that involves using numbers on the grid to deduce the location of hidden "mines". Originating from Microsoft Minesweeper (1992), typical rules are as follows: clicking a tile reveals the tile. Assuming that tile does not contain a mine, it will display a number from 1-9, or appear empty for 0, representing the number of mines in the 8 neighboring tiles. Tiles suspected to contain mines can be flagged for reference. Clicking on a tile containing a mine loses the game. The game is won when all tiles not containing mines are revealed.
In recent years, many variations and takes on the original have been created, such as a hexagonal grid in HexSweep (2014), a multidimensional grid in 4D Minesweeper (2018), putting the gameplay in a roguelite context with DemonCrawl (2019), or many more in 14 Minesweeper Variants (2022)
