Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

If you're interested, I'd recommend reading my review of Wolfenstein: The New Order, as most of what I say there also applies to this game.

The only differences would be that the narrative is more of a mixed bag this time around, with notably stronger overall writing (particularly in terms of characterisation and narrative engagement with the wider context of Euro-American racism and supremacism) and excellent cutscene direction, marred by an uninspired and anticlimactic second half, gameplay that feels even more perfunctory than the last time around, and a general dialling up of the most immature excesses from the first game, particularly the crude and frattish humour, and gratuitous violence, both of which get so out of hand by the end that they start to feel a bit distasteful. The level design is also quite poor overall, with extremely uneven difficulty resulting in frustrating spikes in odd places, and environments that somehow don't feel quite as immersive as those of W:TNO. For such a promising setting (i.e. the Nazi occupied United States during an alternate history version of the 1960s), it's odd how forgettable a lot of the world-spaces feel.

Overall, the first half of the game is probably superior to W:TNO, but, by the end, my feelings toward it had soured considerably, which is a shame because, had it lived up to its initial potential, I might have given it a 4/5. As it is, it can't help but feel a bit mid-pack - flawed but worth experiencing if you enjoyed the first game.

- woke pandering is a bit much in the first half, even though it can be funny sometimes
- too much ammo, it doesn't punish you for using the same gun
- in the middle of the game it suddenly tries to be an open game by forcing you to explore the ship
- stealth is just boring and it forces you to do it too many times

HITLER?!?!?!?!??!?!??!?!????!?!?????!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!???!?!?

one of the best feeling singleplayer shooters that i can remember from recent history, all guns feel great and satisfiying to use. stealth doesn't feel like a chore and is quite satisfying with the hatchet and new abilities you get to do this in game.

but feel like this game could be enjoyed more as a shooting gallery than a sequel to new order, the story for me at many times felt so uninteresting and the attempts at comedy just fell flat on their face, and the ending felt like they ran out of ink on the pen and abruptly ended the story.

music is great aswell, while i do think mick gordon is the tiniest bit overrated because of how everyone loves putting the bfg division into anything for the meme of it, his work in this game is still really solid and great for the combat sections in this game. (sidenote: although some of the song titles are a little lame, some might even say, cringe, like "Nazi Punks, GTFO" and "Right Trigger Warning")

Can't believe this game was so fucking horrible. It has nothing to do with any of the games previous to it. I went into it thinking it would be a fun stupid run and gun shooter but all I got was an extremely obnoxious preacher yelling in my face trying to educate me on 'morality' or some shit.

I want t just forget I ever finished this game and be done with this asap so I wont even write that long of a review

75% of the game is really horrible corny as fuck 'moral of the story' forced agenda political jargon shoved in your face and its just really cheesy and not entertaining at all. It has nothing to do with if I agree with the narrative or not. The way its portrayed is so fking cliche corny stupid and embarrassing that it actually just makes me cringe. None of the characters are unique or interesting, theyre all generic racial stereotypes and constant forced interracial sex scenes and morality scenes just for the sake of furthering an agenda.. Everything is so blatantly politicized that its painful to even get through the cutscenes.

- 25% of the game is wandering around really bad, bland, boring uninspired levels

-with atrocious level design . none of the levels make sense as real locations, all sorts of unnatural stupid twists and turns in a linear fasion but even then its hard to follow. You'll have your hand stuck to the 'objective marker' key the whole game trying to figure out where the fk it wants you to go because none of the levels are designed in a coherent fashion. None of them are memorable at all either, everything is some high tech boring robotics facility or science lab. Theres a few brief level changes but i cant even fking rmeember them.

- Walk around killing generic bad guys either robots , big robots, or normal squishy humans. Enemies are boring and uninspired, AI sucks, you can just sprint past half of them if you actually figure out where to go.

- None of the guns are interesting, they all look the same, they all look like shit, they all play bland and boring. Theres no point to aim down the sights because it makes it harder to tell if you kill anyone because the lack of impact sucks that much because aiming normally atleast gives you a red crosshair.

What else can I say? the whole game is cutscene after cutscene, then a brief section of walking around levels designed like shit, triggering the next cutscene, or the next section where you sit there as a floating head looking around while shit dialogue happens. It's not even a fun run and gun shooter because you can't even do that. all the shooting is slow and methodical cover based boring shit. If you run around and try to have fun you die so fast that it doesn't work out.
Half of the game you have 50 health instead of 100, for some dumbass plot reason but its just not fun. The first level youre stuck in a wheelchair and isn't fun to control and it gives a bad impression that just never goes away. This game fucking blows.

Absolutely amazing. I walked into this one without knowing much and it just completely blew me away. As far as single player FPS goes, I think this might be my favorite of all time. The production values are through the roof, the cut scenes are some of the best of its kind with high quality cinematography (yes this is like a film). The alternate story of nazis taking over and winning WW2 is perhaps not a new concept, but I really like exploring the idea every time. There are some clear cues to our modern times with neo-nazis/white supremacist being on the rise again, really good criticism overall of society as a whole and how they would react.

The game needs more that just an amazing story right? Well the gameplay brought me back to my FPS loving days. At one point is was up there in my favorite genres, but I have only played a few here and there in the past decade. I just felt like every game either has to be a shooter or action adventure, it definitely felt like AAA titles were getting redundant and lacked originality. While this one isn't really groundbreaking, it's just really fun and it gets everything right. The level designs are great, each area has its own style and really different from the next. The story will bring you into all kinds of situation and you've always have to go with the best strategy to get things done (I completed the game on the "Bring It On" difficulty, but this is one of those rare games where I would replay on a higher difficulty). Tons of adrenaline rush moment, and it's just super fun to play, Plus you really want to complete these levels to get the story rolling, it's very rare that I feel compelled to finish a game more than anything else.

Wolfenstein 3D is a classic and changed the whole gaming world around, but I feel that this one blows it out of the water. It took everything great about that game and just pumped it to the max and added this amazing cinematographic experience in the process. I feel a little left out cause I didn't play The New Order or Old Blood prior to this, but I'll be definitely looking forward to playing those now to see more of this world. Top notch shooter, the best of its kind.
