The game feels like a great-but-rough idea for a movie unfortunately used to create a video game, like someone had the right concept but the actual story details and gameplay don't add up. I don't want to spoil the plot but there's plenty of moments that lack the emotional strength that the game assumes and a bizarrely-chosen ending sequence that should've been cut entirely. The dating-and-growing-up process is written terribly and feels like someone assuming what consists a relationship. This idea in the hands of a more capable writer would've worked since, once again, this has the right concept but not the right execution.
The soundtrack is stunning, easily one of the best you'll ever hear in a video game and completely transcends the game around it. It's easily the most memorable part of the game.

started playing this for the first time a couple years ago and ended up getting permanently stuck in one of the sections (can't remember which one) and that alone was enough for me to never revisit it
has the bones of a good concept and story, the spritework is v nice and expressive for the time, i didn't necessarily mind the melodrama, and the music definitely does its job when its called for, but gosh there's a lot here that ultimately brings down the whole experience. between the annoying traversal being the only gameplay, the corniness and jarring pop-culture references, the writing just being v one note, the weird detours like the awful unnecessary chase sequence, and dr. neil watts' entire existence. it feels like it's held together by tape just enough to make me feel something, but not enough. it's decent but man i really expected more. chalk that as another disappointment for me in 2024
