Hey, your comment on the Ori and the Will of the Wisps page was cool and really made me think. I responded to it in the comments there, I'd love to hear your thoughts if you have any. Also, you've got great taste!

Agreed that the writing is lackluster, particularly character personalities as you said. And to add to that, I think it really clashes with the game's bombastic storytelling. For me, the whole presentation, particularly the grand orchestral soundtrack, falls flat. It's like the game cares so much more than I do.

But more on topic, I feel like a "fandomifiable" action-adventures tend to be games with a lot under the surface, story-wise. The more you dig, the more you are rewarded with answers, but also questions. Besides Hollow Knight, Majora's Mask is a good example. These games have charismatic characters and plenty of mysterious gray areas for fans to discuss. With Ori though, it feels like the world exists on a surface-level. The characters are so empty that even detailed backstory just isn't all that meaningful.

After beating the main game and being absolutely throttled by the insanely powerful ending, I poked around in the dlc a bit before deciding I want to let it sit a while. I’m also just playing a bunch of other different stuff. But I’m eagerly looking forward to my downpour dive. Trying not to look up too much cause I don’t wanna be spoiled.
