*After playing endless Jackbox games with my roomies throughout the pandemic, some games over discord, and introducing my family to the series as something to do over the holidays, I feel it's time I review each party pack. I plan on reviewing each party pack, so make sure to check my thoughts on the other games if you're looking for what party pack to try next. I don't rate these games the same as I would a video game because they play closer to board games*
Just like The Simpsons, while seasons 1 and 2 have their merits and should likely not be skipped, Season 3 is really where it kicks off. And boy does it kick off. This is probably the only party pack without a weak game, Guesspionage is the weakest game and it's still fun and better then a good chunk of games that came before it. The speculation that occurs with this game is great and it's a unique way to pose trivia questions.
Tee K.O. feels like the first real drawing game (despite two previous ones) as it highlights trends of drawing games to come. There's not much deep about this game but the scenarios it creates is exactly what you want from this type of game. It's naturally funny while letting inside joke flourish.
Quiplash 2 is Quiplash again, except the end of the game is inferior to the previous one. Still, it's Quiplash and that's still great.
Trivia murder party is my absolute favorite take on trivia in the Jackbox games (excluding it's sequel) and there's many reasons for that. The randomness/skill of minigames, the quirky saw parody, the quality of the trivia, and the tenseness of the final game leads to an almost perfect trivia game, only perfected upon by the superior ending that the sequel includes.
And finally, my partner would hang me if I didn't say faking it was my favorite amongst this pack. Despite face values ruining the definitiveness of this game, Jackbox's first social deduction games is otherwise perfect and is easily my most played game in any of the party packs. Unfortunately, it must be played in person which leads to other social deduction games being played more often, but this should be a top 5 in most people’s books (except my mom who is usually has had one too many drinks by the point we start playing this and is too confused despite understanding every other game no problem).
This is Jackbox at its best, a great variety of games and quality amongst every game. This is the only pack worth picking apart each game’s flaws rather than which games are good, speaking to how tight each game is. This should be your first Jackbox.
