I still like this game quite a bit. Granted, it's not an all-time favorite of mine by any means, but to me it's still an enjoyable several-hour-long experience for the most part. Personally, I'm kind of sick and tired of the recently-created narrative that "guys this has always been a buggy piece of shit! See, the Game Grumps proved it with a playthrough that wasn't my own (who cares if Egoraptor has a known bias against Sonic and was playing the buggiest version of the game)! LOOK AT HOW YOU FALL THROUGH THAT LOOP IT
ALWAYS HAPPENS so take off your nostalgia glasses and stop liking this because I'm objectively right", though that's more due to my own experience of a recent playthrough having no problems like that whatsoever. And my opinion that technical polish isn't everything, but that's another discussion for another time.
Not to say that I think that the game is flawless based on my experiences with it, because there's one noticeable mark against it. Well, two if you count the narrative and dialogue being bad, but it's a fucking Sonic game so that's to be expected. Anyway, to me, Big the Cat's levels really are as dull as people say. Not because of the usually-stated reason of "give me back my
speed", but because they're just really uninteresting. Though, honestly, his levels existing isn't a huge black mark against it to me since the total length of a playthrough for his story is so short.
That aside, this is just a game that I enjoy and that's it. There isn't anything really wrong about it to me barring the aformentioned Big levels, and I certainly have a good time playing it, but that's about it. I just simply like it and... that's all. It's like the Dreamcast's version of
Super Mario 64 [スーパーマリオ64] to me, just replace the camera and random U-turns with fishing.
