Worst one of the bunch. The subtler grey themes of the first two are replaced by boring familialism and references. Technically features a worse open world than the first, and a less complex combat system than the first/second.
Not a bad game by any means, it just pales by comparison.
I honestly really do sense a burnout from the development team. Like what better way to admit it without saying it than sacrificing the established world space for something bigger. I miss when sequels weren't about bigger = better and instead refined what already worked.
I love how impenetrable this game gets for any one trying to analyze what it’s even trying to go for with it’s themes. It’s a mess that doesn’t necessarily stay loyal to being a message but I do think this is Grasshopper’s honest hand throwing to let out that this game and franchise is bull shit experimental enjoyment inspired by their love for video games and other media. It’s just the epitome of being a nerdy ass fanatic of many things and that’s why I love this game despite its flaws and confusing direction.
