The humble beginnings of a cult classic, and oh boy it's as confusing as a full 3D dungeon crawler could be, with obtuse puzzle solving and everything in-between. Seriously, or you get stuck by trying to think on a solution for literally getting through the second floor, or you use a guide. How in the hell are you supposed to know you have to cross an invisible bridge accessed by exploring a hidden path, that gets you to a 3-way teleport hub. That's some demanding science right there.
Magic implementation fucking sucks; not that it differs from the usually fantastic set of explosive and nice animations for the magic attacks, but rather how you'll be handling just 2 offensive spells at the end of the game unless you grind hard for the rest - and if you get them by dumb luck, it doesn't even make sense as you become a machine of destruction and pain if you get that one broken rapier with Sword Magic. Extra points for using the Moonlight Sword.
But the basic tone and features from the classic King's Field formula are here, and if you can get your hands through this hell of a maze (or use a guide and don't have anything against using one) you'll find a quasi-atmospheric, kinda addicting dungeon crawler. Look for hidden walls, save often and NEVER confront skeletons unless you feel your HP is decent enough.

Gets progressively less painful and more fun the further into the game you get. It's kinda crazy how completely ineffectual you feel at the beginning versus how destructive and overpowered you can feel by the end. The beginning was a real slog, but once I got near the end of the second floor I couldn't put it down and finished it in one sitting.
Having to walk and move the camera with d-pad genuinely made my left hand hurt, tho. lol
