Medieval fantasy
Genre
Medieval fantasy is a genre of fantasy in which the setting resembles Europe during the medieval period. It usually features a feudal-like system with a monarchy, knights, and peasantry, and aesthetic elements such as castles, dungeons, or clothing and weaponry mirroring the time period. Its representatives may also include influences of medieval European folklore, such as myths and legends, and overlap with other types of fantasy. The Lord of the Rings is regarded as one of the most important archetypes for the genre broadly, and Dungeons & Dragons is a highly regarded example within the context of games.
