Anyone who's played Sonic 3D Blast should be familiar with this concept: You lead Flicky, a bird who can pick up chicks in a row and lead them to safety from cats. When they touch the chicks they disperse and you have to build a row again for more points. It's a simple and well to do game in the style of Mappy but with more substance, and is quite of relaxing when played in infinite lives mode. The jumping mechanic in this game is very tricky, and would be your main challenge for the most part, and you better pray your finishing door is at the bottom. Those glasses-wearing chicks who think they're too-cool-for-school are the worst since they wander around and fall off ledges unlike other chicks. After every two levels you're treated to a relaxing Galaga-styled bonus round where you need to collect chicks who are thrown off a see-saw before they splat into goo and have your murderous doubts flow through your head.
What makes Flicky work is its sheer maneouverability. That the enemies have such small sprites and hitboxes is a great blessing because it makes leaping over them so easy and swift, and the platforming is polished to such smoothness it makes the game a true treasure.
The iguanas from level 10 aren't enemies: They represent the suffering of the human condition. And they're also serious fuckboys.
The SG-1000 port is impressive but not really recommended, because there is a feeling of constrictedness in the arena and a lack of tight, precision controls present in the arcade version.
