...Here's a strange thought. Sometimes a genre has this enchanting or almost deliberately fantastical property that feels like an unspoken rule. Adventure does, and it's never looked stronger from an outsider's perspective than with the Dreamfall franchise.
I mean it is called "Dreamfall: The Longest Journey". Quite a mouthful to start with. A dreamfall? Hmm... whatever it is, it's so overwhelming I feel as though it is not my place to experience it. They're games I always acknowledged but never personally sought out and if I did I feel I'd damage the fabric of reality somehow. Like it would ruin the magic around it and the fondness I have every time I casually run into it?
And that's saying a lot considering I am writing this after reading various synopsis and reviews about it. My outsider impression firmly remains the same.
If you ever felt this way about a piece of media before, do tell. I wouldn't mind hearing your story.
Weirdly enough i feel something similar about these games, especially the first one. Something about an adventure game called "The Longest Journey" evokes a sense of mystery and childhood wonder that few things do. I'm pretty sure I heard the title a long time ago and it sticked with me. It's one of the main reasons why i want to play the games for sure. At the same time, like you say, I kinda don't want to spoil the mystery. Baldur's Gate is another series that had that vibe to me, but I eventually played those, and they are fantastic. So I'm definitely gonna play this sometime.
