This game isn't perfect (first two levels are slogs, especially with some of their annoying physics-based puzzles; ending is really sudden), but has so much potential for a sequel to be a masterpiece if it improves on what Boneworks 1 does well.

they need to get rid of 80% of these game mechanics, this has to be one of the most egregiously frustrating and headache inducing vr experiences ive had so far and ive been VERY picky about which vr games i even play. fucking horrible experience, game is also way too long for having pretty much zero variety or pull to its weak story.

What mechanics in particular did you dislike? I mostly disliked the first two levels because of how big they were and for having the most obnoxious physics puzzles. I found the game a lot more focused and enjoyable from the sewers level onwards.

Also, I find it hilarious how you start with a long tutorial that completely glosses over how to climb. I didn't think you even could until I watched YouTube videos of players explaining how to do it.

yeah i found shit like the platforming (climbing in particular holy fuck just sickening with the full collision bodies), full collision bodies, hologram gunfights, ammo currency, the system for getting collectibles (also making the collectibles bouncy and inventory hoards is just fucking miserable), the entire save system in general, gravity manipulation, time manipulation, all these things are things that are either tedious, terribly implemented, or just dont work at all in the game.

and yeah its honestly hysterical that the tutorial is as hand holdy and irritatingly long as it is yet not once does it explain how to mount or climb, two things that are essential for players to know (and as far as i know theyre not things that are in any other VR game ive played so why not explain that instead of explaining how the physics engine works). for a vr game thats meant to be for EXPERIENCED VR PLAYERS ONLY it sure doesnt know when to just let you fucking play the game.

Plot and campaign are kinda just whatever. Levels should have been more concise, and it could use more enemy types—they literally just palette swapped HL, they have headcrabs, zombies, and boot boys and that's it. But I really like the way this feels to play, the guns feel great and impactful, and I like all the gimmicky stuff. I never had an issue with the controls or the full-body stuff

Reviews for Bonelab have definitely put me off from getting it.
