"There are really only three types of music---music for your head, music for your heart, and music for your feet..." ANONYMOUS

"The world is such a negative place. The ups and downs of life are such that I hope my music lightens their load." SONNY ROLLINS

"If a literary man puts together two words about music, one of them will be wrong." AARON COPELAND

"I'm always searching. It's the reason I'm here. It's not really about music, it's about searching for meaning." CHARLIE HADEN

""If we're treading on thin ice, we may as well dance..." JESSE WINCHESTER

"Stage 1 of touring too much is when you wake up and it takes a minute to remember what town you're in.
Stage 2 is when you have to ask someone what town you're in.
Stage 3 is when you don't give a damn where you are." DENNIS DUNAWAY (Alice Cooper)

"You live and you die."
"You're gonna die anyway, so you might as well light a few explosives along the way." MEL BROOKS

"It's all about tones."
"You hear the sound in your head or your heart, and you send a message to your fingers. That's my technique."
"On a good night, it works." JIMI HENDRIX

WHY MUSIC MEANS SOMETHING:
"I've spoken to thousands of fans about what they want from music. Some are just after entertainment, others respond to unchecked anger and rebellion, still others like a band because their friends do, and there are those who value artists with the insight and craft to uplift and inspire us.
No single rock n' roll diet works for everyone. We all have different musical DNA, and we all follow different musical paths. Yet there is a unifying quality about rock n' roll that helps instill confidence and hope in millions of fans at times in their lives when little else makes sense." ROBERT HILBURN

ON COLLECTING MUSIC:
"What really gets me off is knowing I have this personal library of everything that appeals to me, and that I can pull any of it out whenever I want to. That's the wonderful thing, customizing the soundtrack of your life. It goes against the fact that so many things are considered disposable now. Music has always been the center of my life, and to some extent it keeps you from just walking outside and and fitting into the crowd.
What better way to avoid that than to surround yourself with the music that you relate to the most? That really is a way of adjusting the world to you." PETER PRESCOTT (Mission Of Burma)

"The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long, plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs.
There's also a negative side..." HUNTER S. THOMPSON

"Capturing Sun Ra's music was challenging because they were practiced and disciplined up to the free-blowing section; they were playing careful arrangements before he turned them loose.
I mean, Sun Ra is Duke Ellington on acid..." RICHARD ALDERSON

"No matter how corrupt, greedy and heartless our government, our corporations, our media, and our religious and charitable institutions may become, the music will still be wonderful..." KURT VONNEGUT

"I love songs about horses, railroads, land, judgment day, family, hard times, whiskey, courtship, marriage, adultery, separation, murder, war, prison, rambling, damnation, home, salvation, death, pride, humor, piety, rebellion, patriotism, larceny, determination, tragedy, rowdiness, heartbreak and love. And Mother. And God." JOHNNY CASH

"First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win." MAHATMA GANDHI

ARTIST IN THE RECORDING STUDIO: "How was that last take?"
PRODUCER/ENGINEER: "I think you should sing it one more time and this time, see if you can take that quantum leap to palatability..."

"Like my mother used to say, 'at least try to ACT normal...'" . WKRP IN CINCINNATI

Hi Steve, nice to hear from you, it's the jolly August time of the year! I've not heard of Quasimode before, so will investigate. Are you familiar with SOIL&"PIMP"SESSIONS? They're good (but I don't know if they sound remotely similar). Keep me posted! :)

Hi Steve! Man has this been a concert year for the ages! Holy cow! And how about those Cubbies!

I should make another list: Artists I once wanted to see live but now don't for whatever reason. Kottke might make it because of those prices, but I still wanna see him. Did I ever mention that my 1/2 sister dated Leo for a while?
