✔✔ I only rate studio albums, the only format I judge evaluable with precision, because of its length and meaning.
[ Now that the track ratings system is available, I will use it, just in case other people would be interested in checking that out. But track ratings is not all I use when it comes to rate an album: I use a personal method of evaluation, which is more complex (including the average rating track systme too), which I won't explain/show here (I'm way too lazy for that!) ]
✔ However, I decided to create lists of:
- EPs' ratings, with only rounded-up grades: 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, ...
- Compilations, with signs of approval/disapproval/neutrality. Because, well, some compilations aren't necessary (already compiled material, no new songs, etc.; while some are useful for their qualities of synthetizing a (part of) career, for the new material, exclusivities, etc.)
- Live albums, with the same system as for the Compilations, but with different criteria, like the interest of the arrangements, the overall quality and interest of live vocals and mood the record creates.
✖ I won't rate singles because there are, often, too many versions of them, and the judgement might be too variable because of its usually very short format.
I also will not rate Classical music (in general), because, atlhough I love it as any other genre, I don't have the knowledge to rate such piece of work: some technical elements must be taught, I think, for somebody to rate/evaluate it; elements I haven't been taught of, it seems. This opinion is arguable, because Popular/Alternative music can be as complex as Classical music... But, yeah, you got the idea. It's just a matter of feeling, a matter of opinion.
I would listen to a soundtrack casually, but it's just not something I'm very interested in.
P.S.: understand that, for me, it takes time to evaluate a piece of musical work, and that I've just begun rating stuff the way I will do. The quantity of ratings so far is, for these rasons, not representative of all the things I have listened to so far. Of course!
