I play piano. Other instruments I'd like to learn are bass guitar and saxophone. My favorite rock keyboardist is Steve Winwood. My favorite hip hop producer is Pete Rock.

I have chosen to forgo rating films; however, I will state that I think that Lawrence of Arabia is the greatest one I have watched (although it is not my favorite, that would be Dances With Wolves).

I'd rather make/listen to music.

I like drum fills. I like good bridges. I like both steady rhythm guitar and slack-tuned guitar.

Over time life changes, but great music lives on.

If you ever have doubts about what is real in this life, well a lot of it may not be real, or may not seem real, but one thing that is always real is music. Sure, some people make music for fame or money, but most of it is pure expression of the human spirit, and there is nothing more real than that.

I have decided to not rate singles. I do, however, rate EPs.

New proposed rating systems:
Spinal Tap amplification system rating

For anyone wondering, I will eventually have a list of my favorite songs. Quite a daunting task, however. It will be a long time in the making.

For those people who think that a stereo system does not have advantages, it allows the listener to isolate individual instrument and vocal tracks by adjusting the speaker balance between the two speakers, perhaps THE most essential part to production or learning how to play a song as a musician. This mostly holds true for music recorded in the 1960s and 1970s, when "stereo" was not yet "perfected".

    That may be a problem to some, and I can understand. That song took me a second listen to grasp it. It's the longest, too. But that album is so epic, each song has its purpose. Moonchild use to be my favorite, now its Epitaph...

    That album has a special place in my heart. I'd never thought an album outside of hip hop would get a hold on me like that. That album got me to expanding my music, but anyways, I enjoy every aspect of the album.

    Wut, do you actually think metal is a more diverse and musicianly genre than prog? Although actually, that's not quite fair because prog is too broad and vague of a term to be considered one "genre", while metal is a pretty limited stylistic.

    technicality =/= musicality

    Metal is not actually very diverse, it is junjun riffage with the occasional superficial classical flourish or whatever else that makes people have this misconception.

    Metallica, Sabbath, and Zeppelin are all present on my list.

    Not to mention Van Halen and Tool are on there, along with AiC (if you count them, some do).

    Hey man, looking at your list of hip-hop for rockers; I think rockers are more likely to dig hip-hop that sounds more dark, heavy, technical and and intellectual, than some of the chilled, roots-based artist you list. I'd suggest throwing in some more abstract hip-hop and whitey rappers, like Atmosphere, Dr Dooom (Kool Keith), Aesop Rock, Celph Titled, Necro, Cunninlinguists, Jedi Mind Tricks, sage Francis, etc.
