After suddenly being attacked by a group of cultists claiming to herald the return of the "true Dragonborn", an ancient dragon priest named Miraak, the Dragonborn travels to the ash-strewn island of Solstheim to investigate this mysterious priest.
I think a lot of my enjoyment of this DLC hinged on me being a huge fan of Morrowind and having just finally completed (after 11 years) the Bloodmoon expansion. If seeing a silt strider or houses made out of giant mushrooms is something you don't care about, then this DLC will probably be significantly less interesting. Even then, probably 75% of it is still the same snowy mountains Skyrim had, but that other 25% was great for me, just to taste a new piece of Morrowind.
This was the only DLC released for Skyrim that actually felt like an expansion pack. It is roughly the same size as the Bloodmoon expansion (though I'd say less dungeons to explore, but they have more to them) and if you fully explore it and do all the quests, you're looking at a good 20 hours. Though it is placed in Solstheim and I enjoyed seeing what it looked like 200 years later...it felt somewhat lacking in that regard. There was nothing left of Raven Rock that was comparable to Bloodmoon, Fort Frostmoth was just a small ruin and Karstaag was just a single room and some caves.
Overall I'd recommend it if you are a big fan of Morrowind and especially if you've played Bloodmoon, but if you aren't, I'm not sure how enjoyable it will be. The main story itself is actually pretty lacking and the Black Book areas, while interesting at first, get tedious (though I did them all and only a couple are required). Most of my enjoyment came from simply wandering and exploring the island without any real goal.
