The Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection is another mediocre nostalgia cash-in that was obviously rushed by Aspyr. Console players finally have access to 32v32 matches, ticket control options (up to 750 per side allowing for much longer matches), and XL mode. Galactic conquest did not receive an online mode which was pure laziness on Aspyr's part. Online is a laggy mess filled with glitches and bugs and the server selection system is complete nonsense. Also lacks any sort of Steam workshop support, which is disappointing since this game has so much potential to live a long life with dedicated mod support. Console players and dedicated fans may enjoy this release but for the most part this was just a rushed cash grab that does not add much.

The server issue was literally the only crucial thing they needed to fix IMO. I played this online for PS2 for several years back in the mid-'00s and the biggest problem was always the servers.
I think already by the time I picked it up, they had abandoned the official servers and players (with good internet connection) had to host their own game servers from a weird program on your personal PC. That is if you wanted to a match with 20+ players instead of 4.
It wasn't a perfect system at all. Even the best servers was still prone to lag. As it was a small community with fierce clan rivalry, of course the servers ended up as a propaganda bulletin boards as well a platform for blatant corruption. Had an argument with someone on a forum? Or maybe you really pwned someone in-game? If they were the server owner, you could be in big trouble. They had all the power. They could kick you, ban you, write messages to people (who couldn't respond).
You were also dependent on them to actually have their servers up. They had to actually their PC on. So obviously the servers often went offline at night or if someone had issues with their PC or connection.
It wasn't all bad, though. The owner got to control the maps. And if people weren't into it, they left. So you were kind of forced to create a good democratic playlist featuring the most popular maps but sprinkled with a little variety. My worst fear, when I heard about the classic collection, was that you'd be forced to play through all the maps on a standardized/randomized playlist like most modern FPS-games have. I love the game but some maps on this game are just terrible online.
So for this game to succeed, I wanted three things.
* Same game * Working servers without player hosting from another source * Player control over map selection
Ultimate dream would be map creation/editing but that's unrealistic.
Yeah the multiplayer is total trash, but coming from the PS2 version the ability to have 32v32 instant action game with 750 tickets a side is so much fun.
