Star Wars: Battlefront II

I dont understand how they could take such a big stepdown gameplaywise from the first game, and at the same time get more people playing this game.

The game looks pretty bad for a 2005 title, though that is in part excusable due to the huge amount of enemies on screen. In terms of sound its star wars, which means that its almost impossible to do wrong.

Gameplaywise the game has a lot of issues. First, the shooting mechanics have really take a step back, and they feel really clunky and awkward to control. Its not an enjoyable shooter at all. The addition of heroes really breaks the tight balance of the game as well, and its never fun to fight against them nor is the swordplay precise enough to be fun to fight with them. Its just a terrible addition alround. The space battles are also another addition, which play pretty terribly in terms of controls and repetitiveness.

The first game is epic, this has way too many flaws to look past. Still the amount of chaos and destruction in some of the missions almost make me forget about this, until i have to play it.

Well, this was an improvement over Star Wars: Battlefront, not by much as all they really did to fix that game was make the Ai much better as well as finish the prequel campaign to include the battles in revenge of the Sith which obviously weren't present in its predecessor. You can read what I said about that game for more info in what I think about these two titles but to summarise, the story campaign is faithful to the six films they're based on, the capture the flag mechanic is addictive as hell made better here with the different classes and vehicles to choose from and the presentation is really good for a mid-00s game.

The most Star Wars action ever put to a PS2 and it's still so much fucking fun.

The space battles are better than in the dedicated Star Wars space/ship battling games, and I'm saying that as a big fan of the Rogue Squadron games. The ground combat can be chaotic, when indoors claustrophobic, and when outdoors just outright epic in scale. This feeling is made even better by the introduction of modded maps and the like.

The story mode has a campaign that's a little heartbreaking too, the monologue before Operation Knightfall will probably be engrained into my mind forever and I am thankful for it.

A must play for any fan of the franchise or any 3rd person shooter/dogfight simulation fan.

A hard game to review for me considering the modding community has improved it in nearly every possible way, in my opinion at least, the core game feels slightly inferior to the first. Still SWBFII is arguably one of the best Star Wars games of the aughts and the addition of Space Combat is incredibly welcome if, un-realized in certain aspects. The only thing I miss is how much of a slug fest some of the moments in the first game were, the omission of Bespin Platforms, one of the best maps of the series as far as I'm concerned, is pure sacrilege.

Simplistic and dated, but fun as fuck. Nice maps, and an amazing experience for the Star Wars I used to be. I loved the Order 66 mission, the only one I really cared about to be honest, otherwise I'd just play Instant Action.

Battlefront II brings back tons of memories for me of when I was in 8th grade. Star Wars III had just come out the previous spring, I remember seeing it in theaters when it came out with my family and I loved it, I bought tons of Star Wars action figures and owned most of the games and of course the first Battlefront was one of my favorite games, I played the hell out of it the Summer before this came out. Then this came out and I begged my dad to by the game, he eventually caved in and decided to deduct it from my Christmas money. I remember being sick with a cold the day we went to Gamestop to buy this. There isn't much to say, I was amazed, it was so much better than the first, it looked better, more planets, a stronger campaign, ability to play as Jedi and heroes was so fun and it had some cool extra modes. It did everything the first did but better and I probably put 100s of hours into this. It had the 4 main factions from the movies, almost every major character from the movies was playable, and I really enjoyed the extra mode where you could play as the Wampas or Ewoks. Plus it added space battles and new vehicles, which weren't great but did add an extra element and were fun enough.

Its just a shame the newer Battlefront games couldn't capture the fun or simplicity of these early Battlefront games, and plus are full of dirty money grubbing practices like microtransactions to milk the player of all the money they can to unlock all the characters, where in this game, you have everything from the start. As a 13 year old 8th grader, this was the best thing ever and still today is the best Battlefront and one of the best Star Wars games. Sure it suffers from some glitches and does get a bit repetitive, but it still holds up fairly well.
