    would be an unplayable slog if i weren't playing it on an emulator with fast-forward because good god there's so much fucking backtracking and random encounters, and it's all very easy; you can play 90% of this on auto-battle.

    Firmly disagree that it's unplayable, but it does expect that the player really REALLY likes straightforward first-person dungeon-crawling. Luckily I do, but I don't blame people for being put off by the core gameplay. It's a shame though, because this has probably got one of the coolest settings and overall scenarios of any MegaTen game, and by extension of most JRPGs. All three routes are great, though Law is probably the most essential since it explores its ideology more thoroughly than the others and is a very nonstandard take on its respective alignment compared to the rest of the series.

      Okay side note, and this is a pretty minor complaint when compared to the experience of the game as a whole, but tying progression to a stat check for a stat which the main character can literally not make any use of (MAG) is one of the most asinine design decisions I've ever seen. Luckily it's only a low requirement for one plot event, and otherwise doesn't come up until the postgame, but thanks to no warning of this in advance I'm now locked out of the final dungeon area, and I don't feel like grinding for an extra twelve hours just to mop up the last bonus level. What a sour note to end on for such an otherwise great game.

      I'm a bit interested in playing this game for the sole reason that the main villain sometimes pops up on the most evil villains discussions. But I don't think I could stomach the dungeon crawling for 40 hours because of it.

    This is peak snes megaten. Infinitely better than smt 1, slightly better than megami tensei 2, on par with majin 2.
