honestly i found this game to be completely insulting, as someone expecting a b/w2 kind of situation. that's what they marketed it as. it was more like a platinum situation, but without any meaningful new content.
It's a little bit better than Sun/Moon, a slight bit more interesting as well, but if Alola isn't a wasteland of a region. Here is where Gamefreak just totally forgot how to build an interesting world. Even though I didn't like X/Y, at least there's some stuff to do there in dungeons and routes. This game felt like the whole game was full of route 1's. Even Mt. Moon is way more interesting than any dungeon, cave or area in Alola. (not that I'm saying Mt. Moon is bad, but more like it's an early game dungeon)
Pokemon distribution is kinda good though, except for the ridiculous SOS mechanic.
I really like these games and I think gen 7 easily the best story in the series (I know it changed in the Ultra games but I only played the Ultra games so idk how they changed) as well as some of the best fights but theyre so hard to replay. The map design is so linear and the cutscenes are so long that even tho I actually think those other parts of the game are strong it wastes way too much of ur time
the fact that this released only a year after sun/moon made it so boring when it first released, but after playing through it again recently it's become one of my favorites
arguably one of the best games in the whole series and easily the best 3d mainline game , completely polishes the alr great concepts of sun and moon , might as well just be a third version of those games (which is why it confuses me why ppl tend 2 hate on this despite it literally just being another third and better version of prob the best 3d gen anyways , the only thing i can rly take away is blah blah 3d pokemon bad i like the ds nd gba games more )
