This isn't as good as 2D Pokemon but I still feel like this is pretty damn underrated and easily the best 3D Pokemon. But I get it, it's really handhold-y and there are too many cutscenes and Rotom won't shut the fuck up with his sad glowy game-breaking eyes. Also Sun and Moon were clearly unfinished and this is really just the completed version of the game sold at full price again (which is shitty business). But I still love all the little side events that give a sense of personality to the world, Rainbow Rocket episode, and hunting UBs. Totem Pokemon are good bosses (better than most gym leaders in other games) and the level curve is pretty decent due to the adaptable experience gain (which should just be a no brainer moving forward but nah). Has its fair share of issues, but I feel like gen VII had an ambition to them that gens VI and VIII sorely lack and these will be at least partly re-evaluated once we get a couple more crappy games and realize that yeah, these were actually kinda tight.

Linking When you mention an album, artist, film, game, label, etc - it's recommended to link to the item the first time you mention it. Doing so will make it easier to search for your post and give it more visibility. To link an item, use the search box above, or find the shortcut that appears on the page that you want to link. It's not worth the asking price as an upgrade to Sun and Moon. However, if you haven't played S/M, this is the version to go for if the difference in price is reasonable to you. US/UM's best addition is the new eighth trial, which is just a boss rush. Actual battles against the trial captains were sorely missing from vanilla S/M, so they're a welcome sight. Second place goes to the new patch of grass at the base of Mount Lanakila, so you can catch some ice-types much earlier in the game. US/UM's biggest flaw that isn't directly inherited from S/M is the two big difficulty spikes near and at the end. The battle against the box legendary is ridiculous, and you can't just throw a master ball and be done with it. The final battle against Giovanni in Episode RR is also far harder than anything around it.

team: Torracat / Lycanroc / Toucannon / Alolan Ninetales / Tsareena / Naganadel Mr. Mime was on the team for most of the game, and I used Necrozma to beat the final fight.

honestly i found this game to be completely insulting, as someone expecting a b/w2 kind of situation. that's what they marketed it as. it was more like a platinum situation, but without any meaningful new content.
It's a little bit better than Sun/Moon, a slight bit more interesting as well, but if Alola isn't a wasteland of a region. Here is where Gamefreak just totally forgot how to build an interesting world. Even though I didn't like X/Y, at least there's some stuff to do there in dungeons and routes. This game felt like the whole game was full of route 1's. Even Mt. Moon is way more interesting than any dungeon, cave or area in Alola. (not that I'm saying Mt. Moon is bad, but more like it's an early game dungeon)
Pokemon distribution is kinda good though, except for the ridiculous SOS mechanic.
I really like these games and I think gen 7 easily the best story in the series (I know it changed in the Ultra games but I only played the Ultra games so idk how they changed) as well as some of the best fights but theyre so hard to replay. The map design is so linear and the cutscenes are so long that even tho I actually think those other parts of the game are strong it wastes way too much of ur time
the fact that this released only a year after sun/moon made it so boring when it first released, but after playing through it again recently it's become one of my favorites
arguably one of the best games in the whole series and easily the best 3d mainline game , completely polishes the alr great concepts of sun and moon , might as well just be a third version of those games (which is why it confuses me why ppl tend 2 hate on this despite it literally just being another third and better version of prob the best 3d gen anyways , the only thing i can rly take away is blah blah 3d pokemon bad i like the ds nd gba games more )
