PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale

what the fuck was this game's problem.

This is essentially a poor man's Smash for PS3, I'll be honest, the idea of this game just seemed stupid from the start and I never was that interested. I ended up renting it at my college's library and we had a night where we played this and it just bored me. The combos, characters, style just were incredibly dull, and once you played a game like Smash this feels so odd. The other thing is Playstation really doesn't have enough iconic characters, Smash could include so many because Nintendo has so many flagship franchises that are centered around single characters. But Sony really only has Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, and Kratos from God of War. Hell some of the playable characters in this include the Big Daddy from Bioshock, Parappa the Rapper, and Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal, its like they couldn't find enough quality characters so just pulled shit out of their ass. This game is just incredibly bland and limited and I can think of so many better games I'd rather be playing.

An obvious attempt to do with Sony what had been done with Nintendo by Smash but misunderstands just about everything about its inspiration. Minor hits to build up a meter for the killing blow makes nigh every moment in between those spurts of excitement meaningless to the grander picture of a fight, a roster with a few great characters but mostly a deficiency of the PS1's greatest stars, or else just a good reminder how few exclusives remain these days, and a real lack of unlockables. All these turn a decent idea into a pale imitation.
