You're the Stranger, a mysterious bounty hunter on a mission to bag the ultimate prize. And you need that money like no one else because there is something very wrong with your health and the only way to fix it is a very costly operation. However the nature of your illness remains a secret and as you find out during the game, for a good reason.
In the dusty, undeveloped wastelands of Western Mudos, cantankerous townsfolk find their settlements besieged by belligerent outlaws. Along comes Stranger, a tall, dark and enigmatic bounty hunter with a mission to capture troublemakers and scoundrels and return them to civilized townships for incarceration. But Stranger is keeping a secret and needs expensive surgery to survive. In his quest to earn enough Moolah, Stranger reluctantly accepts the ultimate bounty from the owner of the Mongo River and suddenly his adventure takes a very different turn.
Something I need to get out of the way before I say anything else, THIS GAME IS AN ODDWORLD GAME IN NAME ONLY!!!!!!!!! I can't stress this enough as I've seen so many negative reviews of this game from people who weren't on board with how radically different this is compared to the rest of the franchise.
That out if the way, we have a western platformer/shooter starring a mysterious character who goes through a development that I won't discuss here as it would be a massive spoiler if I did. I bring this up because there's much more emphasis on storytelling in this game compared to the others in the franchise, another departure from the formula set up by Abe's entries in the Oddworld universe. Naturally the gameplay is completely different as well as there's a higher emphasis on combat due to our hero being armed with weapons which consist of wildlife he uses as ammo. Naturally, the sense of humour the franchise is known for remains intact even if the setting, storytelling and gameplay doesn't, it's surprising how much mileage the joke of watching wildlife attack bandits from the wild west has in this game as I can see it getting old fast in other games in the franchise. My main problem with the game is when you storm a factory towards the end, specifically fighting the enemies as I feel it drags out for too long as does the boss gauntlet at the end of the game which includes two overpowered henchmen you must defeat before facing the final boss. It's another game where it stumbles towards the end despite going strong for most of its runtime.
It's a very underrated game that deserves more attention, one that I hope gets another entry into the franchise one day as I had a lot of fun with it.

Remember playing this on the Vita and thinking it was fun but it just feels so bad playing this on PC. Gave up after a hour. Might revisit it with a controller in the future.
even if spare and differently implemented ideas make it feel weird and unfinished, i keep constantly coming back to this gem. most of the game is pretty unique and art direction is atstounding
