So, for a first attempt at a review on this site, let's start with a game I've bought recently but really started playing since some weeks. Mutant Mudds is an indie, retro-style platformer that you probably know as a 3DS game but it has also been ported on other platforms (I play it on PC).
The plot is as simple as any nineties platformer. A boy and his family are watching TV and doing stuff until suddenly, a meteor comes, crashes on Earth and humanoid creatures made of mud start causing a ruckus. How inconvenient. So, the boy decides to take his water pistol and jetpack and kick these creatures' asses. How fortunate. The rest of the game is simple: use the jetpack to fly, run, shoot the mud creatures and be careful about the obstacles on your way.
Let's say it, this game is far from reinventing the wheel. It's one of those classic pixel art platformers that will not surprise you if you are already familiar with the genre. Plus, several moments on this game (especially the bonus levels in the style of other consoles, like the "V-LAND" and "G-LAND" ones) are really difficult and if you're not the type of person who likes to try again multiple times a part of a level, you will probably be tired of this game very quick.
BUT even with its difficulty and its absence of innovation (and the fact that the main character is too slow for my liking, imo), I still had fun with its game. There's a lot of challenges to do (completing the main levels, taking all the diamonds, completing the bonus levels, the mirror mode...), the soundtrack is very good (special mention to the music of the "G-LAND" levels that, I thought, was very excellent), the difficulty of the game, even if high, is not really unfair and I had quite a lot of fun playing this!
If you are searching for a platformer that can amuse you for more than five hours and if you're not looking for something wildly original, this game will be right up your alley.

Linking When you mention an album, artist, film, game, label, etc - it's recommended to link to the item the first time you mention it. Doing so will make it easier to search for your post and give it more visibility. To link an item, use the search box above, or find the shortcut that appears on the page that you want to link. You can customize the link name of shortcuts by using the format [Artist12345,Custom Name].
P.S: I hope that at one point in the game, you'll be able to take more than one of the power-ups in Grandma' Attic, seriously.
FINAL THOUGHTS: Good in many points, more for the people who want some challenge, not original in any way.

Glad indie design has moved past where it was during the eshop era
